Roundtable with SBA’s Chief Counsel for Advocacy
On November 14th, the Chief Counsel for Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, Winslow Sargeant, visited Milwaukee.
The MMAC’s Council of Small Business Executives (COSBE) and Scale Up Milwaukee are hosted an informal and open forum to give businesses the opportunity to interface with the SBA and to talk about the opportunities and challenges companies face.
The attendees were able to have an engaging dialogue with Dr. Sargeant and one another. Discussion highlights included:
- The plethora of resources SBA has available for growing businesses AND how to access them.
- How the Scale Up platform and COSBE can work with SBA to make these resources more accessible.
- Exploring how SBA and Scale Up can provide new resources to the region.
One of the more interesting side-conversations that illustrated the power of these informal roundtables took place between a banker and an entrepreneur. Each pointed out the difficulties in reaching the other population and making sure they are speaking the same language. This was something we also heard during the Financial Stakeholders workshop in October.
Look for Scale Up to dive deeper into this topic in 2014.
